cytology 2cytologyAn old female patient came with dyspneu, very heavy breathing, due to plentiful of effusion on her right pleura. This effusion then aspirated by the pulmonologist and sent to my laboratory.

The microscopic cytology of the aspirated effusion were malignant cells positive. Both pictures show clear cut cytomorphology /cytopathology of Mucinous Adenocarcinoma that we know a metastases from the primary tumor elsewhere in her body.

We have to counter check with the titer of her serological-CEA which usually will be high, and I suspected the primary tumor resides in one of these sites : breast, lung, colorectal or ovary.

Well, still far away to find her primer malignancy. We will see in a few days..
